The son of Glendale fire captain Jim Bittle and nurse Kathy Homewood (who also served as the ICU director) Bittle was born in La Crescenta, California. Ron, his younger brother, and Jeff, his older brother, are his siblings. In addition to becoming an All-American water polo player at Crescenta Valley High School, Bittle also attended the drama section (group 31) of The Juilliard School, Pasadena City College, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, and The London Academy of Music.

Before discovering acting in his final year of high school, Bittle had intended to play NCAA water polo and then go to medical school. Because of this, he decided to put off going to college in order to appear in the TV show Sweet Valley High. In the first two seasons of the show, he portrayed Todd Wilkins.

Bittle continued to pursue her acting career while attending Pasadena City College. In 1996, she had guest appearances on television shows including Boy Meets World, The Parent ‘Hood, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. He also had minor parts in the movies Devil in the Flesh and The Clown at Midnight, in addition to a recurring role on 7th Heaven as Jessica Biel’s first love interest.

In 1998, while working on the latter project alongside Christopher Plummer, Bittle made the decision to go from Hollywood to New York in order to continue his studies at the Juilliard School. Relocating to Los Angeles, Bittle proceeded with a recurring role on the popular PBS series American Family and the WB drama Dawson’s Creek. He appeared in a variety of guest star capacities on CBS series, including Numb3rs, NCIS, CSI: Miami, and CSI: NY.

He portrayed an actor in Courteney Cox’s television series Dirt for the second time in his career. In 2003, South Coast Repertory presented Cyrano de Bergerac, in which Bittle played the role of Christian alongside Mark Harelik and Gregory Itzin. In the 2010–11 film season, Bittle starred in three films: the horror/thriller A Lure: Teen Fight Club; the comedy Take Me Home Tonight, which was set in the 1980s and starred Topher Grace and Anna Faris; and Backyard Wedding, which starred Alicia Witt and Frances Fisher.

In 2012, Bittle starred with Maria Thayer and Sam Page in Annie Claus Is Coming To Town and with Dean Cain and Kristy Swanson in the made-for-TV film Operation Cupcake. He had cameo appearances on the NBC comedies The New Normal and The Closer. In 2013, he reprised his role as JR Chandler in Prospect Park’s revival of All My Children and had a brief appearance on the Showtime series Shameless. He appeared in two movies in 2014: A Christmas Mystery with Esmé Bianco and Love By the Book with Leah Renee.
