Courteney Cox is an American film and television actress well known for her roles in the NBC sitcom Friends and in the horror film series Scream catapulted her to international renown. Among her many achievements are a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, a nomination for two Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

She is the daughter of Courteney Copeland (née Bass) and businessman Richard Lewis Cox (1931–2001). Cox has an older brother named Richard Jr. and two older sisters named Virginia and Dorothy. Following the divorce of her parents in 1974, her mother wed Hunter Copeland, a businessman (the uncle of The Police drummer Stewart Copeland and music entrepreneur and manager Ian Copeland).Cox attended Mount Vernon College in Washington, D.C.
