Patricia Heaton is an American comedienne, actor, and producer well known for her roles in the comedy films Beethoven and Memoirs of an Invisible Man after landing a recurrent part in the ABC drama series Thirtysomething. Before being cast as Debra Barone in the CBS sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond, Heaton starred in the brief sitcoms Room for Two, Someone Like Me, and Women of the House.

Family – Education

The daughter of Patricia (née Hurd) and Chuck Heaton, a sportswriter for The Plain Dealer, Heaton was born in Bay Village, Ohio. Her mother had an aneurysm and died when she was twelve. Raised as a devoted Catholic, Heaton was the fourth of five children. Heaton’s siblings are three sisters, Frances, Alice, and Sharon (a Dominican nun currently serving as an assistant registrar at Aquinas College in Nashville), and one brother, Michael, who passed away in September 2022 at the age of 66. Michael was a writer for The Plain Dealer’s Friday Magazine as well as the “Minister of Culture” column.

Since 1990, Heaton has been wed to David Hunt, an English actor and filmmaker. As of 2002, they split their time between Cambridge and Los Angeles and had four sons. In 2002, Villard Books published her memoir, Motherhood and Hollywood: How to Get a Job Like Mine. She characterized herself as having gone through a “Protestant wilderness” following her divorce from her first husband, Constantine Yankoglu.

In the American sitcom Back to You, she portrayed Kelly Marsha Carr, Chuck’s co-anchor, up to New Year’s Eve 1996, when he departed WURG. She became inebriated while researching a piece on drunk driving, and as a result, she had sex with Chuck and became pregnant with her daughter. She took every opportunity to vent her anger at Chuck upon his return. She disclosed that, in reality, Gracie, her daughter, is Chuck’s offspring.

Despite their many arguments off-screen, Chuck Darling and Kelly Carr, co-anchors of the Pittsburgh news show WURG News 9, had a fantastic on-screen connection. But Chuck took a job elsewhere and moved out. Chuck leaves a large market LA newscast after making an embarrassing comment that leads to his firing. Ten years later, he returns to Pittsburgh to work as an anchor on the newscast he had abandoned. Chuck finds out that he is the father of Carr’s daughter, who is ten years old. In the “Something’s Up There” episode, their daughter Gracie celebrates her eleventh birthday.
