Tom Cotter ( born Thomas Cotter) is an American comedian who lives in Stony Point, New York. He is best known as the runner-up of America’s Got Talent’s seventh season, where he lost to Olate Dogs.

Cotter attended the Moses Brown School in Providence, and Denison University for his undergraduate degree.

Cotter grew up as the youngest of six children on Providence’s East Side. His father, Dr. Walter C. Cotter (November 25, 1923–October 27, 2021), was a World War II navy veteran who later became a well-known neurosurgeon. Barbara Cotter, his mother, was a homemaker who also handled his father’s medical practice.

Career

He has appeared on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, “Late Night with Craig Ferguson”, and “Last Comic Standing”. In 2003, Kotter directed his own half-hour special for Comedy Central. Kurt has won several acting competitions. In 1994, he won the Seattle International Stand-up Comedy Competition. He first found success in the Boston comedy scene and remains popular today, winning the Grand Prize at the Boston Comedy Festival and being named Best Stand-Up at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival. Cotter has also worked in film, television, and television production, and has been working on books since 2012.

Kurt appeared on the seventh season of NBC’s America’s Got Talent in 2012. Three of the judges granted him a pass to Las Vegas. He advanced to the Round of 48 (Quarterfinals) and performed in Newark, New Jersey. On July 10, 2012, he performed a stand-up comedy routine that made fun of clichés and idioms and was appropriate for the occasion. On August 28, 2012, he sent a list of names to the judges, asking judge Howie Mandel to choose a name. Mandel chose “University” and Cote went on to make a short drama about college and youth. It made it to the final six and finished the season in second place. Kurt returned to the show on August 21, 2013, and performed on that night’s results show.
