Podcast
What Say You?, an occasional podcast produced by Vulcano and Quinn, won Best New Show at the 2013 Stitcher Awards. The growing popularity of What Say You prompted friendly competition among the pals, prompting Gatto and Murray to launch their own Tenderloins podcast without the other two members.
At the 10th Annual Podcast Awards in 2015, What Say You? received nominations in the Comedy, Entertainment, and Best Produced Podcast categories. They have indicated that the podcast is their personal side project, not a replacement for The Tenderloins Podcast. The group claimed that it was difficult to arrange all four members’ schedules outside of work, making it tough to produce their troupe’s official podcast on a consistent basis.
Vulcano and fellow comedian and buddy Chris Distefano have worked together on the podcast Hey Babe in recent years. Until mid-2023, the program was produced by Mike “Homeless Pimp” Lavin. The podcast is unscripted and focuses on the three’s conversations and recollections on a wide range of topics. The podcast has numerous running gags, including “shout-outs” to random celebrities, nations, and social identifiers as they come up in conversation, continuous references, congratulations, and commiserations to both the players and organizations that played in Super Bowl LV, and a Patreon page that, after being promised for a long time, lasted a month and has not been used since.
Tattoos
Vulcano has two Jaden Smith tattoos: one on his left leg as a punishment from the program, and an updated portrait on his right thigh as part of an Impractical Jokers: The Movie segment.
Career
Murray, Gatto, and Vulcano regrouped after graduating from college and began practicing improvisation in Gatto’s house, eventually touring as an improv and sketch comedy troupe in 1999 under the name The Tenderloins. The Tenderloins started making comedic routines together and posting them on YouTube, MySpace, and Metacafe, garnering millions of views online. In 2007, the troupe won the $100,000 main prize in the NBC It’s Your Show competition with the comedy “Time Thugs”.
Impractical Jokers began on TruTV on December 15, 2011, and garnered over 32 million views in its first season. The show has become TruTV’s most popular series, bringing Vulcano into the spotlight. In November 2017, Sal was the most reprimanded joker on the show. Q, Murr, and Sal lost Season 3, Episode 26 “The Permanent Punishment” and were forced to receive a tattoo of Joe’s choice. Sal was given a Jaden Smith tattoo, which became a running humor throughout the episode.
In October 2019, Vulcano and the other members of The Tenderloins appeared in The Misery Index, hosted by Jameela Jamil and based on Andy Breckman’s card game “Shit Happens.” The series got renewed for a third season. As a result of a punishment on the show in February 2021, Vulcano was nicknamed Prince Herb for the remainder of the season and any subsequent media appearances.
The punishment episode aired on April 29, 2021. However, after Joe departed the program in December 2021, Sal discontinued the Prince Herb disguise, and in the first episode without Joe, which aired on April 2, 2022, the other jokers officially decommissioned the character. Vulcano made an appearance on Would I Lie to You? Season 1 Episode 9 (Babysitting Lemurs) in June 2022. He also appeared in Season 4 Episode 4 of What We Do in the Shadows.
