Career

He began his career as a print writer for The Nantucket Beacon and then The New York Post. As an investigative reporter for the Post, Kennedy had the first interview with the officer who apprehended Oklahoma City bombing suspect Timothy McVeigh and broke numerous other health-care and metro area stories. In August 1996, he joined Fox News Channel as a general assignment correspondent and now broadcasts a bi-weekly program called Douglas Kennedy’s American Stories. He covered the 1996, 2000, and 2004 presidential elections for Fox News, as well as Hurricane Katrina. In 2006, as a journalist for the Fox News show The Big Story.

Kennedy was cleared of misdemeanor physical harassment and child endangerment charges on November 20, 2012, following a January 7, 2012, confrontation with two nurses at Northern Westchester Hospital in Mount Kisco, New York, two days after his son, Anthony Boru, was born. Kennedy sought to remove his infant from the maternity unit for some fresh air, which two nurses claimed was against hospital rules, and alleged that he physically assaulted them when they tried to stop him. Following the incident, Kennedy was examined separately by New York child protection authorities; however, social workers discovered no signs of child abuse in his household and deemed the charges false in March 2012.
