Family – Education

Hannibal Buress was born as the son of Margaret Buress, a teacher, and John Buress, a Union Pacific Railroad employee. He grew up in the Austin area of Chicago. He was named after Carthaginian general Hannibal, and in his stand-up act, he has told anecdotes of women rejecting him because of his name’s relationship with fictional cannibal Hannibal Lecter. After finishing Steinmetz College Prep, he went to Southern Illinois University Carbondale for four years but did not graduate. While there, he became acquainted with hip hop artist Open Mike Eagle.

Bill Cosby

Hannibal Buress was caught on camera on October 16, 2014, performing an extensive routine regarding sexual assault claims against comedian Bill Cosby at Philadelphia’s The Trocadero. Buress attacked Cosby’s legacy of “talk[ing] down” to young black males about their fashion choices and lifestyle. Buress slammed the actor’s public moralizing, saying: “Yeah, but you raped women, Bill Cosby, so that kind of brings you down a couple notches.” When the audience reacted incredulously to Buress’s accusation (Philadelphia is Cosby’s hometown), he encouraged them to Google “Bill Cosby rape” when they got home.

Buress had been performing the same Cosby routine for the preceding six months with little response, but his October performance became viral after being put on Philadelphia magazine’s website. A media frenzy developed, with multiple magazines delving into how Cosby had managed to retain, as Buress put it during his set, a “Teflon image” after more than a decade of public sexual abuse allegations.

Comedian Eddie Murphy later mentioned Buress’ role in the charges while mimicking Cosby during his 2015 Mark Twain Prize for American Humor acceptance speech, portraying Cosby as threatening Buress’ life.

Buress was a writer for Saturday Night Live from 2009 to 2010. Saturday Night Live (SNL) is an American late-night sketch comedy variety show founded by Lorne Michaels and developed by Michaels and Dick Ebersol. It airs on NBC and streams on Peacock. Michaels is presently the program’s showrunner. George Carlin presented the show’s premiere on NBC on October 11, 1975, under the original title of NBC’s Saturday Night. The show’s comic sketches, which frequently mock contemporary American culture and politics, are performed by a huge and diverse ensemble of repertory and newer cast members. A celebrity guest hosts each show, usually delivering the opening monologue and performing in sketches with the cast, with a musical guest providing highlighted performances. An episode typically begins with a cold open skit based on political happenings and concludes with someone breaking character and exclaiming, “Live from New York, it’s Saturday Night!” to officially begin the show.

Is Hannibal in Spider-Man?

Buress played Andre Wilson in Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Daily Bugle’s commercial campaign, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. By 2016, Wilson was a physical education teacher at Midtown School of Science and Technology. During the lessons he led, he established the Captain America’s Fitness Challenge for his students to complete, despite the fact that Steve Rogers was now deemed a felon due to the Sokovia Accords. He also praised Peter Parker’s physical abilities, unknowing of his alter ego.

Wilson also oversaw kids who were placed in detention at his school, where he showed video clips of Captain America scolding the students, despite the fact that this work plainly bore Wilson. During one of those detention sessions, Wilson noticed Peter Parker leave the classroom and ordered him to return, although disillusioned. He then questioned Michelle Jones why she was there when she didn’t have detention, only to learn that she loves drawing people in difficulty, just like Wilson.
