Garofalo was born in Newton, New Jersey, as the daughter of Joan and Carmine Garofalo. Janeane’s mother, a secretary in the petrochemical business, died of cancer when she was 24. Her father was a former executive at Exxon. She grew up in several cities, including Ontario, California, Madison, New Jersey, and Houston, Texas, where she graduated from James E. Taylor High School. Garofalo had previously stated that she despised living in Houston due to the heat and humidity, as well as the emphasis on appearance and sports in high school.

Garofalo, a history student at Providence College, received the “Funniest Person in Rhode Island” award in Showtime’s comedy talent contest. Despite her early hand-reading gimmick, she later became a professional standup comedian after earning degrees in history and American studies. Despite her initial challenges, she finally found work as a bike messenger in Boston.

Garofalo married Robert Cohen, a writer for The Ben Stiller Show, in Las Vegas in 1991. She later explained that it was intended as a joke, as the couple believed that the marriage was not legally binding unless it was filed at a local courthouse. It was later discovered, when Cohen attempted to marry someone else, that the marriage was legal. The union was disbanded in 2012.

Madame Malin is an anthropomorphic fox with red hair, dark eyelids, purple eyeshadow, and blue eyes. Madame Malin appears in the episode Panda’s Family dressed as an inflatable panda with red Chinese clothing and a Chinese straw hat on her head. Madame Malin and her daughter Madeline dress themselves as pandas and attend a Chinese lantern festival, convincing Panda and the other bears that they are his uncle and cousin. Finally, they disclose their identity and attempt to take Panda away in a hot air balloon, but Grizz and Ice Bear stop them. Madame Malin uses a harpoon to defeat the Bears. Panda, however, manages to shred her inflatable clothing, leading her and Madeline to flee madly.

Janis investigated a probable FBI mole, which led her to Sean Hillinger, who was concerned about his wife, Christina Hillinger.Janis prevented Chloe O’Brian from breaking into FBI computers, allowing Jack Bauer and Tony Almeida to escape.She accompanied Walker to the hospital and held up Alan Tanner’s lawyers until he revealed what Jack and David Emerson were planning.

At 2:00pm, Iké Dubaku stormed the Boyd Chemical Plant in Ohio. Janis intercepted a security breach and directed John Brunner to evacuate employees. Dubaku abandoned the scheme, and Brunner died from drunkenness. Janis cautioned Sean about his involvement with Erika and the implications if Moss found out.

Chloe O’Brian came at the FBI office to help strengthen the CIP firewall, but Janis thought Moss was using her to replace her. She requested Sean for his digital beta key, but he declined. Janis watched Chloe’s movements and noted that a name had been removed from Dubaku’s list.
