Arena began working for CNN in 1985 as a production assistant. In 1989, she was designated CNN’s executive producer of daytime finance coverage. She collaborated with Lou Dobbs to create the program Moneyline in 1990. She moved to London in 1991 to serve as an executive producer for CNN’s World Business Today show. She returned to New York in 1992 and was appointed News Director of all CNN’s finance programming. She began her on-air career as a business reporter in London in 1993, before relocating to Tokyo in 1994. Arena relocated to Washington, DC, in 1995 to cover US government news as a business reporter. Arena was elevated to Justice Correspondent in 2000. She had reported for CNN programs American Morning, The Situation Room, and Anderson Cooper 360°. She left CNN in January 2009. She appeared as a panelist on truTV’s In Session.
