He interned for many television news stations in Washington. Sreenivasan was granted US citizenship in September 2008. He was hired full-time in 1995 by then-NBC affiliate WNCN-TV in Raleigh, North Carolina, and later relocated to San Francisco, California, to work for CNET, where he covered the high tech industry. Sreenivasan joined ABC News in New York City as a journalist in 2004, and went on to co-anchor World News Now with Taina Hernandez while also co-hosting the behind-the-scenes podcast ABC News Shuffle with Jake Tapper. In early 2009, he served as a CBS News correspondent in Dallas. Sreenivasan also anchors SciTech Now, a science program produced by WLIW 21, a WNET sister station and PBS affiliate on Long Island. He is also a correspondent for Amanpour & Company, based out of the WNET studios in Manhattan.
Late in 2009, he became a “online/on-air correspondent” for The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer, giving the television broadcast’s news summary and end-of-the-hour recap, as well as leading the show’s blog. Sreenivasan took over as host for PBS NewsHour Weekend, which was produced at the Tisch WNET Studios at Lincoln Center in Manhattan in 2013. He frequently replaced the late correspondent Gwen Ifill and fills in for Judy Woodruff when she is absent or on assignment. Miss America 2014 Nina Davuluri and Sreenivasan presented a talk by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 28, 2014, at Madison Square Garden in Midtown Manhattan, in front of a crowd of more than 18,000. This was Modi’s first visit to the United States after being denied a visa.
