Previous roles include reporting for NPR station WBUR, the Associated Press in Boston, and NPR on issues affecting 10 southern states and Capitol Hill. For a study of the attainment gap across races, she shared first place in the National Awards for Education Writing in 2005. She is a National Association of Black Journalists member. Cornish took over for Liane Hansen on NPR’s Weekend Edition on Sunday. Hansen had been the show’s host for over 20 years. Cornish revealed at the close of the December 18, 2011, Weekend Edition broadcast that she would be departing the show in January 2012 to co-host All Things Considered for the 2012 election year, to be succeeded on January 8 by Rachel Martin.
