Brandon Sheffield Career

Sheffield collaborated with illustrator Dami Lee to develop No Girlfriend Comics, a webcomic that chronicles his experiences of being unexpectedly single after a two-year relationship. Sheffield worked as the director of Necrosoft Games on a series of video games on PlayStation Mobile before the service was canceled in September 2015. In February 2015, Sheffield released Gunsport, a PlayStation Vita “cyberpunk volleyball” game. Sheffield collaborated on the racing game Oh Deer! with video game composer Motohiro Kawashima, whom he met when visiting Ancient Corp’s Yuzo Koshiro. Decinoge created the game’s basic mechanics, which were inspired by Outrun 2. Sheffield formerly served as the editor-in-chief of Game Developer Magazine and as a senior contributing editor for Gamasutra.

Sheffield began writing brief descriptions of his experiences after he broke up with his fiancée in 2014, such as the awkwardness of leaving the house without a lover and the gloomy nature of going to bed alone. Though he believed his emotions were unique to him, he soon found that his reactions and resulting routines were extremely similar to those of other people who had experienced a break-up. Sheffield then approached illustrator Dami Lee about turning the story into comic strips. This endeavor culminated in No Girlfriend Comics, a webcomic that ran on Tapastic from August to December 2014. Sheffield and Lee collaborated once more in 2016 to develop the webcomic Hot Comics for Cool People, which was syndicated in SF Weekly.
