Conan Patrick Nolan is a political reporter for NBC-Universal’s flagship station in the western United States, KNBC-TV in Los Angeles. He also hosts the station’s News Conference program, which is one of the country’s longest-running local political and public affairs broadcasts.

He also hosts the station’s News Conference program, which is one of the country’s longest-running local political/public affairs broadcasts. News Conference, founded in 1966 by Tom Brokaw and Bob Abernethy, typically airs on Sunday mornings following Meet the Press in the Los Angeles market. Warren Olney, Linda Douglass, and Jess Marlow have all previously hosted the show.Nolan’s first full-time broadcasting job was as the Assistant News Director at KVEC-AM radio in San Luis Obispo. He switched to television two years later, first as a weekday reporter and then as a weekend sports anchor at KSBY-TV. Later, he joined KSBW-TV in the Salinas/Monterey region. Among the issues he covered was actor Clint Eastwood’s mayoral campaign in Carmel, California.
In July 1986, Nolan was hired by KNBC-TV News Director Tom Capra, the son of film director Frank Capra and former executive producer of The Today Show. Throughout his career, he has reported on various fires, floods, earthquakes, police pursuits, and riots. In 1989, he reported live for NBC News from Candlestick Park shortly after the 7.2 magnitude Loma Prieta earthquake (he was on vacation at the time and had been attending a sporting event at the stadium). He broke the Los Angeles Police Department’s probe into singer/entertainer Michael Jackson in 1992. In 1994, reported live while driving in front of O. J. Simpson’s white Ford Bronco during a police pursuit.
Nolan also reported from Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom; Pakistan during the war in Afghanistan; Lebanon during the anniversary of the September 11 attacks; and in Kobe and Tokyo, Japan following two massive earthquakes in 1995 and 2011, respectively. He has also reported from Rome, Tel Aviv, Mexico City and the small island of Tuvalu in the South Pacific.

In 2010, Nolan was named television’s “Journalist of the Year” by the Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. He won a Golden Mike Award for a story about Afghan refugee children along the Pakistani border, and a regional Emmy Award for a series about the little South Pacific island of Tuvalu’s fight against global warming.
