Darden began his radio career as a teenager in 1990 at KSFM in Sacramento, California. He began his career at KSFM in research and as a sales runner before moving into programming as an intern and later co-hosting the night and morning shows. In 1997, he worked as a programming and music director, as well as an afternoon host, at KBMB in Sacramento. Darden eventually became KBMB’s operations manager, while also co-hosting mornings on KXJM in Portland. Darden is now one of three anchor DJs on Apple Music 1 an internet radio service from Apple Music, in addition to his current on-air role at Hot 97. He is also Apple Music’s Global Editorial Head of Hip-Hop and R&B.
Darden joined WQHT as music director in 2003, eventually becoming program director in 2007. From 2004 to 2007, Darden co-hosted the WQHT Hot 97 morning show with Star and Buckwild, Miss Jones, DJ Envy, Sway, and Joe Budden, and introduced Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg to the AM drive. In 2012, he returned to the Hot 97 Morning Show alongside Cipha Sounds, Peter Rosenberg, and Laura Stylez. Darden was the main voice of several events at Hot 97 as programming director and on-air host, including Nicki Minaj’s relationship with the station and her alleged sexual relationship with the host; Hurricane Sandy; and Mister Cee’s personal life. VH1 announced a new unscripted comedy series in 2014. In 2013, Darden was recognized by Radio Ink as a future African American leader.
