Morrison married Suzanne Perry (née Langford) in 1981, a writer, consultant, one-time news anchor, and political fundraiser who also served as press secretary to former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau. Caitlin (born 1981), Emily (born 1985), Willy (born 1987), and Madeleine (born 1989) are their four children. Morrison has a son from a previous marriage, Michael (b. 1974), and is the stepfather of actor Matthew Perry, Suzanne’s son from a previous marriage to actor John Bennett Perry.
Keith Morrison Career
Morrison began his career as a reporter and anchor at local stations in Saskatchewan, Vancouver, British Columbia, and Toronto, Ontario in the 1960s. In 1973, he joined CTV’s Canada AM as a newsreader and later worked as a reporter, weekend anchor, and producer. He won awards as a CTV reporter for his coverage of the Yom Kippur War. From 1975 to 1976, he worked as a reporter for CTV National News, and from 1976 to 1979, he was the show’s National Affairs Correspondent and substitute anchor. Morrison began working for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation as a substitute anchor and Chief Political Correspondent for The Journal, the network’s nightly public affairs program, in 1982 and stayed until 1986. He also co-hosted the show Midday.
He moved to Los Angeles in 1986 to work as a news anchor for KNBC-TV at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. He began working for NBC News in 1988 as a west coast correspondent for the NBC Nightly News and Today Show. Morrison covered the 1989 Tiananmen Square protests and later contributed hour-long documentaries and magazine segments to various NBC programs while continuing to anchor KNBC. Morrison returned to Canada in 1992 to co-anchor Canada AM, the leading national morning news program on CTV. On PBS, he also hosted The Editors. He was the CTV National News substitute anchor and the heir apparent to anchor Lloyd Robertson until 1995, when he was fired as part of a network shakeup.
Morrison returned to NBC in 1995 as a Dateline NBC correspondent, where he remains as of 2023. In the episode “The Trip” of Seinfeld, he played a newscaster. In the episode, he reported Kramer’s arrest as a serial killer. Morrison’s Dateline interviews have captivated audiences and attracted the attention of comedians. On November 22, 2008, Saturday Night Live created a sketch with him as the central figure, played by Bill Hader. Morrison also appeared as himself on an episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers that aired on July 9, 2014, parodying his characteristic dramatic delivery of real-life murder mysteries that he is known for on Dateline.
