For the next two and a half years, he assisted in the operation of the DIY venue Subterranean A, which included musical bands Radical Face, Tennis, Secret Society, and comic acts James Adomian and Wham City.

He hosted a number of comedy shows in the city, first at Subterranean A and then at other venues, acquiring notoriety in the community for his ‘alternative’ performance piece-oriented comedy. He also contributed to the live series You, Me, Them, and Everyone. In 2013 and 2014, he appeared at the Bentzen Ball comedy festival and was named to the Washington City Paper’s annual “Best of D.C.” list. In 2014, he relocated to New York City.

Friedland co-hosted the comedic podcast Cum Town with Nick Mullen and Stavros Halkias in 2016. The podcast is well-known for its absurdist and contentious content.
