Alden formerly worked as the Financial Times’ Washington bureau chief, a correspondent for the Vancouver Sun, and the managing editor of Inside US Trade. He has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times, Foreign Policy, Foreign Affairs, Fortune, and The Globe and Mail, as well as appearing on PBS NewsHour, NPR, BBC, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC. His essay “The Story of One Man’s Immigration Ordeal,” published in Newsweek in 2011, drew global notice. The Closing of the American Border: Terrorism, Immigration, and Security is written by Alden. Failure to Adjust: How Americans Got Left Behind in the Global Economy, a finalist for the Lukas Book Prize, and Since 9/11.
