Tatge taught journalism at DePauw University, the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, and the University of South Carolina. He also taught graduate journalism students about business, economics, and finance as an adjunct professor at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism. Tatge’s debut book, The New York Times Reader: Business and Economics, was published in 2010.
Tatge has previously been a Kiplinger Fellow in Public Affairs Reporting at Ohio State University, where he earned his master’s degree in journalism. Tatge worked as the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s statehouse investigative reporter for eight years, investigating wrongdoing in state government. “Secrets of the Deal,” Tatge’s investigation exposing wrongdoing at the Ohio Department of Insurance, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize twice. Tatge was appointed as a visiting professor at Ohio University in 2008, thanks to a fund created by the E.W. Scripps Co. Tatge was appointed Eugene S. Pulliam Distinguished Visiting Professor of Journalism at DePauw University in 2011. Tatge received the Baldwin Business and Financial Graduate Fellowship from the University of South Carolina in 2014.
