At the age of 5 he auditioned a got a role in the 2009 movie “It’s Complicated” as Alec Baldwin‘s character’s stepson. In 2012 he played the role of Oliver Lefkowitz in season nine of Grey’s Anatomy episode Run, Baby, Run. Emjay’s role in the film Chef in 2014 as Percy, the son Jon Favreau’s character is considered his breakout role.
In 2015 he got a role in The Divergent Series: Insurgent as Hector. In 2020 he played the character of Theo Perry on Council of Dads while from 2022 to 2023 Emjay portrayed the character of Zeke Breem in the comedy-drama series, Physical.

He portrayed Oliver Lefkowitz in the Grey’s Anatomy episode Run, Baby, Run in season nine. Oliver Lefkowitz was a gastroparesis patient at Seattle Grace Mercy West Hospital who had a stomach neurostimulator implanted. Oliver suffered from gastroparesis and was believed to have been an epic puker for a long period, preventing him from eating solid meals.
He was admitted to the hospital to have adhesions removed and a gastric neurostimulator inserted to shock his stomach into remembering to digest his food.

Considered as his breakout role, Emjay portrayed the character of Theo Perry, Scott and Robin’s temperamental teenage son in the American drama television series Council of Dads. Scott Perry, a cancer patient, is concerned about his five children growing up without his guidance and assistance. He and his wife Robin enlist the help of three friends to form a “council of dads” to function as father figures to his children. Scott passes away, and his loved ones form a larger chosen family.
