Williams is one of the most well-known anchors in the Los Angeles area, the country’s second-largest media market. Williams was originally known for her signature hairstyle, which sported a conspicuous silver streak until the late 1990s. Williams taught for a few years in the Omaha Public School system before beginning her reporting career with WOWT in Omaha. Williams came to KNBC from cross-town rival KCBS-TV, where she anchored the 5 p.m. news for three years after Connie Chung left for NBC News. Prior to joining KCBS (formerly KNXT) in Los Angeles, Williams worked at KPIX-TV in San Francisco, California. Williams was especially noticeable during the O. J. Simpson murder trial, which she covered for KNBC and MSNBC, co-anchoring a daily synopsis of the proceedings each evening. Williams took over for long-time 11 p.m. anchor Kelly Lange after the Simpson trial ended. Lange departed the station after 25 years to temporarily work for KCBS-TV before retiring from broadcasting in 2001. Williams attended the 61st Emmy Awards on August 29, 2009, at the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences in North Hollywood, California.
