Spencer Christian is a retired American television weather forecaster who worked for ABC’s Good Morning America from 1986 until 1998. He is currently the weather forecaster for KGO-TV in San Francisco, which is owned by ABC.

Spencer Christian Career
As a news reporter at WWBT in Richmond, Virginia, he covered state and local politics, the public education system, and major cases in the Fourth US Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1975, he was hired by news director Ron Kershaw at WBAL-TV in Baltimore, Maryland, to join the station’s Action News team, which comprised Sue Simmons, Mike Hambrick, Ron Smith, Curt Anderson, and Joe Krebs. From there, Christian relocated to New York City’s WABC-TV, where he worked as an Eyewitness News general assignment reporter, weatherman, and sportscaster from 1977 to 1986. Christian began working as a weather forecaster for Good Morning America in August 1986.
He went throughout the United States and internationally on occasion, reporting on a wide range of issues ranging from current events to human interest tales. Christian was also the host of the music game program Triple Threat on the BET cable network from 1992 to 1993. Christian had a major gambling problem for many years. In his 2018 book, You Bet Your Life: How I Survived Jim Crow Racism, Hurricane Chasing, and Gambling, he explains his addiction and recovery. Christian departed Good Morning America at the end of 1998 to work as a weather forecaster at KGO-TV in San Francisco, California, where he still works today. From 1995 to 1999, he hosted Spencer Christian’s Wine Cellar on HGTV.
Since 1997, Christian has also hosted the PBS rail series Tracks Ahead. In 2006, he began hosting The View from the Bay, a popular afternoon show in San Francisco. Christian returned to Good Morning America as a substitute weather forecaster in June 2014, while Ginger Zee was getting married. He also returned on November 19, 2015, to commemorate Good Morning America’s 40th anniversary. He is a member of the Iota Phi Theta fraternity’s Beta chapter.
