She won eleven performances on Star Search when she was sixteen. Her mother began mailing out videotapes of her performances after Star Search, hoping to obtain a record deal. Enriquez signed a solo deal with LaFace Records in 2001 and released her debut album, Joy Enriquez. The album and its debut single, “Tell Me How You Feel,” achieved some international success, allowing Enriquez to make promotional trips to Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, and Korea. Enriquez’s CD was released in the United States one week after the 9/11 tragedy. Tiffany Enriquez, her older sister, and manager, as well as Epic Records recording artist Tiffany Dunn, has taught voice lessons to American Idol contestant Allison Iraheta.
Joy had a change of heart regarding the musical direction she wanted to pursue after nearly finishing a follow-up album in the same Pop/R&B vein as her debut, which would have included the leaked tune “It’s So Funny,” a collaboration with Mase. She decided to make her next album an inspirational/contemporary Christian music record. The album that followed, Atmosphere of Heaven, was published on March 7, 2006, by the independent label JoyfulChild, which Jerkins and Enriquez founded. She created “Boom Chika Boom” for the Our Family Wedding album in 2010 and performed/authored “Beatz Be Rockin'” for the Nickelodeon iCarly series. In 2012, she contributed the song “Light My Fire” to the Lifetime series Dance Moms.
On July 18, 2013, her reality series House of Joy debuted on the NUVOtv network. Each episode would be followed by the release of a new digital single on digital services.
