Clayton Brough Career
Brough was the Executive Vice-President of the American Geographical Research Corp. of Utah in the mid-1970s, where he examined the region’s climate. He began teaching in 1975 but left for a time when he became the director of research at WeatherBank Inc. in 1978. In 1978, Brough began his career as a member of the KUTV weather crew in Salt Lake City. In 1980, he moved to KTVX in Salt Lake City and became the station’s chief weatherman. In 1986, he switched to doing weather on weekends in order to devote more time to his teaching job. After thirty years as a weatherman, Brough retired from ABC 4 in November 2008.
Following his retirement, he continued to write reports for the Utah Center for Climate and Weather on the state’s climatic history and weather. He did six public service announcements on cancer screening and prevention for KBYU Television in April 2015. Brough worked as an on-air weatherman while also teaching geography, journalism, and science to middle school students. Between 1975 and 1978, Brough taught at Springville Junior High in Springville, Utah. In 1984, he returned to teaching at Springville before going to Eisenhower in 1986. Brough also worked as an Adjunct Geography Instructor at Brigham Young University beginning in 1989 and at the University of Utah beginning in 2005. Brough stepped down from his teaching duties in 2012.
Brough Books- Author
Brough co-wrote Utah’s Comprehensive Weather Almanac with Dale Stevens and Dale Jones in the 1980s.[13] With Dan Pope, Brough co-edited and contributed to the book Utah’s Weather and Climate in 1996. With David James, Brough created the Utah Center for Climate and Meteorological website in 2003 to assist students with meteorological information and instruction in the state. He also wrote a number of additional works.
