In 2001, Sally married Marcus Obermeder. After several years of trying, the couple decided to undergo in vitro fertilization (IVF) and conceived in January 2011. Their daughter was born the day after Sally Obermdeder was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in October 2011. Obermeder announced in July 2016 that she would be having another child through a surrogate mother. She had her second kid through a surrogate in the United States in December 2016.

Obermeder began chemotherapy eight months after the birth of her daughter. Obermeder stated that the chemotherapy, coupled with caring for her newborn daughter, was taxing but energizing. In February 2012, Obermeder, her coworkers, and her television business friends held a fundraiser event at The Beresford.

Obermeder attended the ‘Women of Style Awards’ hosted by InStyle magazine in May 2012. She received a standing ovation for her speech, in which she emphasized the significance of style and what she has learned while fighting illness and becoming a new mother. Obermeder also authored a book on her experience.

Obermeder had her first mastectomy in June 2012. She also had radiotherapy treatment from July through September of 2012. In September 2012, I had my second mastectomy and reconstruction surgery. Obermeder underwent comprehensive tests in October 2012 and was given the all-clear – exactly one year after being diagnosed with cancer. She is continuing her public awareness campaign for breast cancer. Obermeder celebrated his five-year all-clear anniversary in 2016.

Her “weight loss journey” started in late 2020. Obermeder shed 22 kg in 12 months, but she didn’t feel compelled to discuss it – or even notice it – until people started asking her about it.

She opened out about her weight loss journey on the health brand’s website, and while she did dig into the hows and whys of her new lifestyle, she had one message that stood out. Obermeder recalled a moment on Christmas Day in 2020 when she realized how the previous six months – during which she had moved offices, had an increased workload while her sister and SWIISH co-founder was on maternity leave, and when her daughter graduated pre-school – had taken a toll on her body.

She was out on a stroll when she realized how much her fitness had deteriorated. When her girls suggested going to the park to run about, Obermeder suggested instead going to the movies or a café so she wouldn’t have to run around with them.

Never Stop Believing, Obermeder’s debut novel, was published by Allen & Unwin in April 2013. Obermeder discusses her battle with cancer and her struggles to succeed in commercial television in her memoir. In September 2014, Obermeder and her sister published their first e-book, Super Green Smoothies. Recipes for green smoothies that promote health and weight loss are included in the book. The Allen and Unwin publishing house released a paperback edition of the book in April 2013. Over 120,000 copies of the book have been sold since its 12th reprint, making it Australia’s best-selling smoothie book. Additionally, Super Green Smoothies was the 2015 non-fiction book with the third highest sales.

The Good Life, a cookbook of Obermeder and Koraiem’s favorite recipes, was published in March 2016. More than 140 recipes for smoothies, salads, bowls, and snacks were included in Obermeder and Koraiem’s third cookbook, Super Green, Simple, and Lean, which was published in September 2017.

Obermeder and her sister launched their first Super Green Smoothie 30 Day Smoothie Challenge in 2015, following the success of their first book. Participants were obliged to consume one super green smoothie every day for 30 days, using recipes from their guidebook.

Sally Koraiem joined the Macquarie Radio Network in 2017 as the host of Better Living with Sally Obermeder, her own talkback show. The show covers news and offers opinions on issues such as fashion, beauty, health, and family.

Obermeder’s Seven Network career began in 2005, when she joined the Sydney Weekender crew. Obermeder covered a variety of stories while on the road for the weekly travel and lifestyle show. The New Zealand special of Mike Whitney’s Walkabout, a national travel series that aired in 2005 and 2006, was also shown by Obermeder that same year.

Obermeder became the National Entertainment and Lifestyle Reporter for the network’s former evening current affairs show Today Tonight in 2008, and she held that position until 2013. Obermeder was named Avon Cosmetics’ ambassador in October 2015. She has also appeared in advertisements for The ATC Spring Racing Carnival, Westfield, and Priceline. Obermeder worked in finance and investment banking until 2003 prior to beginning her career in television. Additionally, Obermeder is a certified pilates instructor and personal trainer.
