Stevie Nicholson Hi-5
When original member Tim Harding was wounded in a major motorbike accident in June 2007, Nicholson joined the Australian children’s musical group Hi-5. Nicholson had been hired as an understudy just a few days before and took up Harding’s touring duties right away. After recovering from his injuries, Harding announced his permanent departure from the group in November, with Nicholson taking his place as a permanent member. Creator of the franchise Helena Harris commented, “it’s like [he] was born to this job.”
Nicholson recorded seven seasons of Hi-5 and Hi-5 House before announcing his departure from the group at the end of the year in August 2015. He expressed plans to develop his acting career and write a children’s book titled Superdudes. “It has been an absolute whirlwind journey,” he said of his time with Hi-5, adding that he had learned more from youngsters than he had been able to teach. His final tour appearance with the band was in December. Lachie Dearing took his place. In December 2018 and November 2019, he returned to the ensemble as a guest performer.
