In 2007, he was cast as a regular on the television show Rove. Rydeas (pronounced “rye-deers”; a combination of “Ryan” and “ideas”) was his signature segment in 2007. In 2008, he launched a new section called Investigationing (a neologism), then in 2009, he debuted “Philosophisationing.”
Shelton has also appeared in the award-winning Working Dog Productions’ improvised comedy Thank God You’re Here. He’s also starred on Hamish and Andy’s Gap Year and has his own part called “100 Seconds in New York.” He first debuted in the second episode. Shelton also made a brief appearance on TwentySomething.
Shelton co-produced True Story with Hamish and Andy in 2017. He appeared in the fourth episode as storyteller Emidio, a teacher in his first year on the job. He appeared as a guest co-host on the radio show Get This. On Monday nights, he also appeared on Red Hot Go, a late-night radio show on FOX FM in Melbourne. Shelton co-hosted the Summer Fling breakfast show on the Austereo Today Network with Jules Lund and Tamsyn Lewis in December 2007.
In February 2008, he joined Nova FM to host the Ryan & Monty breakfast show with Katie Dimond (‘Monty’). It ran from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. From January 2009 to 2010, he co-hosted the Nova FM drive time slot Ryan, Monty & Wippa with Katie Dimond (aka Monty) and Michael “Wippa” Wipfli between 4-6pm weekdays. Many of the show’s voiceovers are performed by Lachy Hulme.
