Bonnar has appeared on television as Peter Mayhew in BBC One’s New Blood and Chris in Channel 4’s comedy Catastrophe, a role he reprised in the following series. He also plays the Rev. Adam Collingbourne in ITV’s Home Fires, John Halliday in Undercover, and Duncan Hunter in BBC One’s Shetland. Vera, Grantchester, Case Histories, The Paradise, Doctor Who, Psychoville, Taggart, Phoneshop, and Paradox are among her other television credits. He played regular Bruno Jenkins in the BBC One series Casualty in 2005. In 2018, he played Dr. Neil Sommer in Channel 4’s Humans. Bosola in The Duchess of Malfi at the Old Vic in London in 2012, Philistines at the Lyttelton, National Theatre in May 2007.
In September 2004, he played Benedick in Much Ado About Nothing at the Salisbury Playhouse, Cyrano de Bergerac at the National Theatre, and Parade at the Donmar Warehouse. In the 2013 video game Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Bonnar provides the voice and motion capture of Edward “Blackbeard” Thatch. He also provides Townsend’s voice and motion capture in the 2016 game Battlefield 1. He also appears in Big Finish Productions’ Doctor Who series Doom Coalition as Eleven, a villainous Time Lord who retains the personalities of his previous incarnations in his mind. Bonnar also plays Twigs and Box in CBeebies’ Tree Fu Tom.
