In 2012, Compston reprised his role as Detective Sergeant Steve Arnott, a member of an anti-corruption squad, in the BBC police drama Line of Duty, alongside Craig Parkinson. He also appeared in the violent thriller Piggy the same year. Returning to his Scottish roots, he played the lead in Ray Burdis’ film The Wee Man, which depicted the life of Glasgow gangster Paul Ferris. It was released in the United Kingdom in January 2013.
