That year, Bonet, then 19, co-starred with Mickey Rourke in Angel Heart as 17-year-old Epiphany Proudfoot. Several seconds of an explicit scene she shared with Rourke (filmed when she was 18) were edited into the film to ensure a R rating. Following that was a topless centerspread in Interview magazine.

The actor left A Different World after announcing her pregnancy during the show’s run. The following year, she returned to The Cosby Show, but was fired in April 1991 due to “creative differences.” Following The Cosby Show, Bonet appeared in direct-to-video and made-for-television films. In September 1992, Bonet hosted Why Bother Voting?, an election special focusing on the concerns and apathy of young voters. She appeared in the 1998 film Enemy of the State and the 2000 film High Fidelity as a supporting actress.

She starred as Queenie in Biker Boyz in 2003, reuniting with her A Different World co-star Kadeem Hardison. In 2005, he co-starred in the film Whitepaddy.
