Platzman began his career as a drummer at college and local events. He was a member of a guitar performance ensemble with Wayne Sermon and Ben McKee. McKee, Platzman’s classmate, was invited to join the rock band Imagine Dragons in 2008. McKee, in turn, invited Daniel to join the band on drums. Initially, the band performed at local events, earning several local accolades and awards, including Best CD of 2011 at Vegas SEVEN, Best Local Indie Band 2010 at Las Vegas Weekly, and ‘Las Vegas’ Newest Must See Live Act’ at Las Vegas CityLife. The band signed a deal with Interscope Records in November 2011 and began working on an album with producer Alex da Kid.
They achieved mainstream success with their debut album, ‘Night Visions,’ released in 2012. The album reached number two on the Billboard 200 chart and was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for Best Rock Album in 2014. ‘It’s Time,’ one of the singles, became the band’s first single to reach number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified multi-platinum by the RIAA. The second single, ‘Radioactive,’ was even more successful, reaching number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and being certified diamond by the RIAA. The single set a new record by topping the Billboard Hot Rock Songs chart for 23 weeks in a row. It also became the best-selling rock song in Nielsen SoundScan history.
Imagine Dragons’ second album, ‘Smoke + Mirrors,’ released in 2015, was also a success. It debuted at the top of the Billboard 200, the UK Albums Chart, and the Canadian Albums Chart. Its singles ‘I Bet My Life’ and ‘Shots’ also charted.
