Spacek originally wanted to be a singer. Rainbo recorded 1968 single called “John You Went Too Far This Time,” the lyrics of which chastised John Lennon and Yoko Ono for their nude album cover for Two Virgins. Her record label dropped her after her music sales slowed. Spacek decided to pursue acting and enrolled at the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute. She worked as a photographic model (for Ford Models) and an extra at Andy Warhol’s Factory. She had an uncredited role in his film Trash (1970). She enrolled in Lee Strasberg’s Actors Studio and later the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York with the help of her cousin, actor Rip Torn.
