Barbet announced her departure from 5 News on June 11, 2012, to join ITV Breakfast’s Daybreak. On September 3, 2012, he made his debut, co-hosting the show with Ranvir Singh from 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. Matt reviewed the news on This Morning with Singh on occasion throughout 2012.

Barbet worked at BBC Radio 1 as a newsreader on the Sara Cox Breakfast Show before joining BBC London in 2003. In 2006, he hosted BBC London’s coverage of Children in Need. He also hosted the BBC’s STORYFix, a lighthearted look at the news that aired on BBC News 24 and the BBC website. In 2007, he worked as a fill-in presenter for BBC Breakfast.
Matt Barbet joined Channel 5 in September 2007 as a presenter and correspondent for 5 News. His appointment came after the program’s main anchor, Kirsty Young, announced her departure. He began his new job in November 2007.
Matt Barbet and Isla Traquair were announced as stand-in presenters on 5 News in June 2008, while Natasha Kaplinsky was on maternity leave. Matt visited Haiti after the earthquake in January 2010 and has also served with the British Army in Afghanistan. After Kaplinsky left the station, he was announced as the new host of the flagship 17:00 program in February 2011. He left on July 26, 2012.
On March 3, 2014, it was announced that Daybreak would be cancelled and replaced by Good Morning Britain later that year. Matt presented his final episode of Daybreak on 4 April 2014, and the Daily Mirror confirmed the following day that he would not be joining the presenting team at Good Morning Britain. Matt co-hosted 330 episodes of Daybreak during his tenure there.
