She began playing the piano at the age of five, and her parents introduced her to classical, country, and soul music. She began taking voice lessons and playing the guitar in middle school. Cartelli was performing with a local islander at a restaurant on Jetties Beach in Nantucket in the summer of 2016 when a bartender posted a video of her playing on Facebook. The video eventually received tens of thousands of views, including from The Voice’s producers. Cartelli auditioned for the fourteenth season of The Voice in 2018. She performed “Beneath Your Beautiful” by Labrinth and Emeli Sandé in her blind audition. Kelly Clarkson and Blake Shelton, two of the four coaches, turned their chairs for her.
