He honed his act in Las Vegas before moving to Phoenix, Arizona, to work as a house MC at a comedy club. In 1995, he moved to West Hollywood, which he “hated so much,” owing in part to a comedy act slump at the time. Before settling in Playa del Rey and working in clubs outside the city center, he was a regular at the Hollywood Improv or The Comedy Store.
Stanhope co-hosted The Man Show’s fifth and sixth seasons with Joe Rogan in 2003 and 2004. He agreed to the project in order to improve his financial situation. Among the segments on the show were Stanhope lasting five rounds in a boxing match with Tonya Harding, which he lost by decision, and his mother reviewing pornographic films. In 2005, he hosted his own radio show on SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Stanhope hosted Girls Gone Wild: America Uncovered that year. Stanhope relocated to Bisbee, Arizona, in 2005. He played a caustic joke to a baby in the film The Aristocrats. Stanhope founded The Unbookables, a touring comics group featuring artists such as Andy Andrist.
Stanhope revealed on The Howard Stern Show in 2014 that he was working on a show with Johnny Depp. Depp befriended Stanhope in Europe and had an unknown project in mind for him, according to Stanhope.
