Begun playing with the Limeliters at the age of 17; worked with Chad Mitchell Trio for two years, appearing on Mighty Day on Campus in 1961; joined Bobby Darin for several months, appearing on recording sessions with Judy Collins and Hoyt Axton in the early 1960s; performed as a solo artist in Los Angeles, formed several short-lived groups in the early to mid-1960s; formed the Byrds with David Crosby, Gene Clark, Chris Hillman, and Michael Clarke, In 1973, he released his self-titled debut, which was followed by Peace on You in 1974; in 1976, he released the critically acclaimed Cardiff Rose; and in the 1980s, he recorded and performed. Back from Rio was released in 1990, Born to Rock & Roll was released in 1992, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band—Roger McGuinn Live was released in 1994, and Life from Mars was released in 1996. the mid-1990s; released traditional folksongs on Treasures from the Folk Den, 2001.
