Chris Washington is a Black photographer who is visiting his white girlfriend, Rose Armitage’s, family. He confesses, while in a trance, that his mother was killed in a hit-and-run when he was a child. The guests at the party hold a silent auction with Chris as the “prize,” with Jim winning the bid.
