Jay Ellis Insecure
He appeared as Martin Lawrence Walker in the American comedy-drama television series Insecure. Eight episodes in the first season unpacked the story of the Black female experience through the eyes of two female protagonists, Issa and Molly, who have been best friends since their college days at Stanford. They are both in their late twenties and are navigating career and relationship experiences in their hometown of South Los Angeles, California.
The two have a close friendship, and they deal with internal struggles, their friendship, and the African American community throughout the show. Issa works for “We Got Y’all,” a non-profit that helps middle-school-aged students of color. She is struggling to rekindle her passion for her long-term boyfriend, Lawrence, who has slacked off in their relationship since his start-up company failed. Molly is a successful corporate attorney who has difficulty dating men. The half-hour series delves into social and racial issues pertaining to the contemporary Black American experience.
Jay Ellis Escape Room
He appeared as Jason Walker, a stock trader in the 2019 American psychological horror film Escape Room. Six people are each given a puzzle cube. They are invited to participate in an escape room after they solve the puzzle. However, once the key is found, the rooms become lethal. Some rooms, with songs playing, coats, and hospital beds, remind the players that they are the only survivors. Zoey realizes that the point of the game is to see who has the best luck. Six months later, Zoey meets up with Ben and shows him newspaper articles that explain the deaths of the other players as “accidents.” She gives Ben hints that point to an unlisted Manhattan building.
Jay Ellis The Game
He appeared as Bryce “Blueprint” Westbrook in the seasons 6 to 9 of the American television series The Game. Bryce is a wide receiver for the San Diego Sabers and the first overall draft pick from Stanford. He is highly educated and frequently the smartest person in the room. Despite his brilliance and talent, he is still a young man with much to learn about life, love, and himself. Blue is one of the new characters that was introduced in season 6. His character takes the place of Derwin Davis as the main character. In exchange for Derwin, Blue was traded from Baltimore to San Diego. At a post-draft party, the two men confront each other and brawl. He pursues Keira for the first time that night. Throughout the series, they have an on-again, off-again relationship.
Though Blue had moments when he tried to act out against Keira by using women to make her jealous (sleeping with Ciara, bringing her to a group photoshoot, and the party bus episode all in season 6, having an escort with him in the season 7 premiere, having a woman with him in season 9 as he calls off their engagement), he clearly still loves Keira. Jason chastises Blue in Season 7 for failing to focus due to off-the-field distractions. In season 8, Blue takes the initiative and eventually becomes team captain. In season 9, he led a protest against Saber management, which cost him a couple of games, but the Sabers won the championship in the series finale.
