Braithwaite first began his career in music at the age 0f 21 as a member of a 1970s band called Sherbet. The group was formed in April 1969 with Dennis Laughlin as a lead vocalist, Doug Rea on the bass guitar, Sammy see on organ guitar & vocals, and Danny Taylor on the drums. Daryl and his bandmates rented a place in Jonathon’s Disco where they practice seven hours a night and four days a week. The Band’s massive hit single is titled Can You Feel It, Baby released in 1971. Later, they released a soul-influenced album that was listened to in Australia, Norway and Sweden as a global hit. Additionally, Daryl has also been a member of other bands like The Fabulous Caprettos and the Company of Strangers formed and canceled in 1992.
Braithwaite first gained recognition as a vocalist on a popular band called Sherbet. However, he decided to pursue a solo career in music in 1973. Daryl’s first gig as a solo artist was singing lead on a musical theatre production of the Who’s rock opera called Tommy in March 1973. In October 1974, he released his debut single titled You’re My World while he was still a Sherbet member and lead vocalist. From there, Daryl released another single titled Cavalry in August 1975 with co-writing credits from his fellow bandmate Tony Mitchell. He went on to release around 20 singles after Sherbet briefly broke up and reunited in 1980. Thus, Daryl decided to put his solo career on hold until 1988 where he dropped a comeback album called The Edge.
The Album became an automatic hit with singles like As the Days Go By and The Horses going number on The Australian Top 40 Hits. His second album Edge even topped the charts of Norway and Sweden. In 1999, Daryl went on another hiatus until 2005. Since then, he has released so many tracks and albums that earned him an indiction on the ARIA HALL of Fame by Jimmy Barnes. In June 2020, Daryl released LOVE songs which reached the top 50 in Australia after 27 years of his solo career.
