Fitch was born in Atlanta, Georgia to African-American parents. When Niles was 12 years old, his father Frederick (a financial advisor) died of lupus, and his mother (an attorney). His family relocated to New York City so that he could pursue acting, and he now resides in Los Angeles, California. Rayshard Brooks, a 27-year-old African American man killed by the Atlanta Police Department (APD) on June 12, 2020, was Fitch’s cousin.

Fitch began print modeling at the age of four. His first job was in a Parisian back-to-school commercial. He then made his stage debut as Young Simba’s replacement in The Lion King’s 2012 North American tour. He also appeared as Emmanuel in the 2014 Off-Broadway production of Our Lady of Kibeho. He made his television debut in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne, followed by a recurring role in Army Wives Season 7. St. Vincent and Roman J. Israel, Esq. were among his early film credits. Fitch was cast as a young Randall Pearson in the NBC series This Is Us, for which he received an ensemble Screen Actors Guild Award.
He, along with the rest of the teenage cast, was promoted to series regular from Season 2 onwards. Fitch had roles in 2019 films If Not Now, When? and Miss Virginia. In May 2019, it was announced that Fitch would star as Prince Tuma in the 2020 Disney+ film Secret Society of Second-Born Royals. In August 2020 it was announced that Fitch had begun filming The Fallout.
