Giraud is one of the few Puerto Rican supermodels who has been on magazine covers and in foreign campaigns. Giraud competed in a number of beauty pageants in her early career, becoming a titleholder numerous times before winning the Miss Universe 1998 pageant and finishing as second runner-up. She had previously represented Puerto Rico at Miss World 1994 and is a two-time Miss Puerto Rico. Giraud was crowned Miss World Puerto Rico in 1994, and she also received the titles of Most Beautiful Hair, Most Beautiful Smile, Most Beautiful Face, and Best Runway. Later, she represented Puerto Rico in the Queen of the Atlantics International in Spain, where she was crowned Queen of the Atlantics in 1995.
In 1997, she represented Puerto Rico in the Miss Venus International pageant in Jacksonville, Florida, and won the title for her city. Giraud was crowned Miss Aguas Buenas in 1998 and Miss Universe Puerto Rico the following year. She also received the awards for Most Beautiful Hair, Most Beautiful Face, Best Body, and Miss Photogenic.
Despite a scandal that nearly cost her the crown due to some sexy modeling shots, Giraud was cleared by Donald Trump to compete in the Miss Universe 1998 pageant in Hawaii, where she was a crowd favorite and finished as second runner-up behind Venezuela’s Veruska Ramrez and Trinidad and Tobago’s winner Wendy Fitzwilliam.
Later that year, she published “Joyce, Dreams and Realities,” a book based on her Miss Universe experiences. Giraud was the only unbeaten model to win every episode of Star Search dubbed Destination Stardom in Honolulu, Hawaii in 2000.

Giraud began modeling to help her mother pay for her mother’s university education and quickly rose to become one of Puerto Rico’s top models. She has appeared in a number of national and international advertisements. She describes being discovered while working at a KFC restaurant’s drive-thru.
Giraud discovered her love of acting after winning Miss Universe Puerto Rico when director Vicente Castro cast her as the lead in his Coralito Tiene Dos Maridos, a remake of Sonia Braga’s Dona Flor y Sus Dos Maridos. She received such positive feedback that she discovered a new interest in life. Giraud came to Miami, Florida after doing many minor jobs in her home Puerto Rico, where she maintained her successful modeling career. After becoming the unbeaten model of Star Search in 2001, she opted to relocate to Los Angeles, where she has been in various films and television shows.
Giraud has appeared in David Fincher’s Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, as well as Dude, Where’s My Car?, Miss Castaway, and Slayer. She has appeared in television shows such as Baywatch, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, Heist, and Joey. She starred as “Angel” in Tyler Perry’s House of Payne for the first two seasons beginning in 2007, and she was a lead in NBC’s Siberia in 2013. She joined the fourth season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills in 2013, becoming the show’s first Latina housewife.
During her time on the show, she received the “Loveliest Locks” award from Bravo’s The Real Housewives Awards. Giraud is named as a co-producer on the upcoming film Back Roads, which is based on the bestseller novel. Giraud founded the annual international beauty contest Queen of the Universe in 2012 to benefit the UNESCO Foundation for Children in Need projects. She has since produced and directed the annual event. Giraud founded the YOU Foundation for Children in Need in Senegal, Africa, in 2014.
