Johnny Lozada Mira Quien Baila
Lozada won the fourth season of Univision’s dance competition Mira Quien Baila on November 24, 2013. Horacio Villalobos, Bianca Marroquin, and Ninel Conde made up the judge panel for this season. Lozada started out strong in the competition, winning the first gala with 66 percent of the public vote. The following week, he won a duel against El Dasa, garnering 76 percent of the vote. After a regional Mexican routine failed to impress the judges on September 29, 2013, Lozada was forced to dance twice. He avoided elimination by advancing to the next round with a tango in his second routine. Throughout the season, he was disliked by the all-Mexican jury, and he was even involved in a scandal when Conde questioned his masculinity after the regional Mexican routine.
In the face of the insult, Lozada remained diplomatic, but his wife did respond. He danced to La Isla Bonita the following week and remained in the winner’s circle. Although there were no eliminations from the previous gala on the fifth date, Lozada managed to avoid being nominated to the elimination round with a cha-cha-cha. The next step was a direct classification with a pasodoble.
Following an urban routine, Lozada dropped into the elimination round for the first time at the seventh gala. He beat Manny Manuel with 62 percent of the vote on the eighth date, doing a disco dance and surviving the jury’s nomination to the elimination round. His nomination became a hot topic in various nations during the voting process.
Lozada danced a quickstep at the ninth gala and was pushed into a single-elimination qualificatory to the finals. He went to the semifinals after dancing a merengue and eliminating Mane de la Parra, who only received 35% of the vote despite Conde’s public encouragement. Conde did not congratulate or react to Lozada after his elimination, despite publicly backing him. During the gala, he tore a muscle in his right arm, but was treated with injections and elected to continue. Lozada won the competition with two tangos, defeating Marjorie de Sousa and Pedro Moreno with 53 percent of the vote. He gave the $50,000 prize to the Puerto Rico chapter of Habitat for Humanity. Lozada, along with Roselyn Sanchez and Javier Castillo, returned to the show four years later as one of the judges for season five.
