During the spring tornado season of 2012, Amanda worked with the Center for Severe Weather Research in Boulder, Colorado. The Doppler on Wheels and Tornado Intercept Vehicle will be familiar to fans of the Discovery Channel’s Storm Chasers series. When an EF-2 tornado impacted the lead Scout vehicle in which Amanda was traveling, she was working with the ROTATE team to analyze low-level wind data in tornadoes, and she then participated in a search-and-rescue operation near Russell, Kansas. Before moving to Vermont, Amanda worked as the Weather Director at KMOT NBC North Dakota News in Minot, ND, where she covered everything from blizzards and -80° wind chills to supercell thunderstorms.
Amanda has been delivering the weather prediction on Local 22 News This Morning and Local 44 Morning Brew for more than four years. She may now be heard on Local 22 at 6, 7, and 11 p.m., as well as Local 44 at 10 p.m., in the evenings. On ‘This Place in History,’ a weekly piece co-hosted with the Vermont Historical Society, she also enjoys bringing the past to life. Amanda helps coordinate Nexstar’s Founder’s Day of Caring community service project and serves as a coach with Girls on the Run every spring. During the Fall 2019 semester, she is also looking forward to mentoring broadcast meteorology students at NVU-Lyndon.
