Growing up in Houston, Denise was the first to be encouraged to pursue a career as a journalist. She is a James Madison Senior High School and University of Houston graduate. She has received a number of local scholarship awards, including those from the Evan E. Worthing Scholarship Fund, the Linda Lorelle Scholarship Foundation, and the Soul-Patrol Scholarship Initiative, which is supported by former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. She was chosen to give the keynote lecture at Soul Patrol’s charity event during her senior year, which was attended by former President George H.W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush.
She gained the guts to pursue her career in broadcast journalism after that. Denise got her first work in Hastings, Nebraska, as a general duty reporter. She then moved south to Shreveport, Louisiana, where she worked as an anchor and reporter in the morning. After five years as a night anchor in Little Rock, Arkansas, Denise returns to FOX 26 Houston. She was a key part of the team’s reportage of Arkansas’ horrific 2017 prisoner executions. Throughout her career, she has covered a wide range of natural disasters, from tornadoes to snowstorms. Denise is a member of the International Association of Black Journalists.
She enjoys volunteering, mentoring, watching movies, cheering on the University of Houston Cougars at all of their athletic events, and spending time with her husband and children in her spare time.
