A reel of weird and interesting sporting highlights from the previous month, with Don Pardo’s taped introduction and ending. When the segment starts, the sound of a rooster crowing splits the globe in half. The world returns to its “pre-torn” form when the segment concludes. Don Pardo, the announcer, continues with the same rooster sound “If there is a future time, stay tuned for Spanning the World. Don Pardo is my name.” Berman indicated in his last WNBC broadcast that the topic would continue on The Today Show. Berman would perform a variation every now and again. Berman did a version of the piece for WNBC called “Spanning the Week” on occasion. As a result, I’ll go through some unusual and interesting stories from the previous week.
